How Much Does a Hotel Access Control System Cost?

Anyone who works in the hospitality industry understands how integral security is to guests and employees alike. Safety is a paramount concern for any industry; however, hotels are unique. Complete strangers are all sleeping under one roof. Repeat customers form the backbone of any tourism business. You want to ensure everyone feels secure and comfortable at all times.

Happy Guests are Protected Guests

Whether they are travelling for business or pleasure, your guests expect that their valuables will remain secure when left unattended in their rooms. They expect a simple access control system such as a card or a fob to let them into their rooms while their hands are full. They definitely do not expect strangers off of the street to come knocking at their doors at 2 a.m. Keep your guests and your staff secure by having a reliable hotel access control system installed.

Protecting Sensitive Information

Most night auditors and hotel managers can tell you where the personal employee files are located, where the accounting books or programs live and where all the customer's credit card information is secured. These valuable details are by law, expected to be kept privately and discreetly. Hotel access control systems can help you keep certain locations off limits from staff and guests.

How Much Does a Hotel Access Control System Cost?

Some simple math can help you come up with an estimated cost for your new security system. You will need to count all exterior doors to be able to install a security feature that will meet your requirements. As well, count the number of guest rooms available in order to provide individual security to each suite. If you prefer to have your main office available to certain staff and not everyone, this can be arranged by using programmable key tags, fobs or card readers.

Boutique hotels and smaller properties requiring a quality system for up to 150 guests and staff will spend approximately $1500 to $2500 per access door. Larger properties that require security on 2 to 3 access doors will be in the range of $2500 to $3500. This would be acceptable for 150+ people. Palatial suites and large properties with 300+ guests and staff requiring multiple access doors can expect to pay $10,000 to $15,000. This price represents the complete system with all of the accessories such as: key cards, software, door hardware and installation services.

Pricing Details

Expect to pay roughly $10 to $100 per month for service fees. Much of this pricing has to do with the cost of the key cards and the replacement cards. Maintenance may include 24/7 customer support. Programmable key cards average from $3-$5. Determine how many key cards you will have per room. A minimum of 3 cards is recommended; however, this is flexible.

Extra Features

  • Many hotels enjoy the added security of having an alarm sound if a door is propped open for extended periods of time. Having friends or foes of your guests enter your property unannounced is not acceptable and would be terrible for business.
  • Employee badges can further be personalized with a current photograph. Photo ID printers are available to customize your order.
  • Energy Saving Switches can be implemented via the room's key card to reduce energy costs. The lights and amenities are activated during the "unlocking" feature and everything is shut off upon exiting the room and "locking" the door.
