A simple remodel with no reconfiguration usually takes one to two weeks. This means replacing cabinets, countertops, flooring and the like with stock materials but not changing the layout of the kitchen. More elaborate and custom jobs that do include reconfiguration can take anywhere from two weeks to several months. These timing estimates are broad, but it’s difficult to be more specific because every project is different.

If getting the project done quickly is important to you, there are things you can do to speed up the process:

• Hire a general contractor or kitchen designer. Managing the construction process yourself is admirable - and it can save a lot of coin - but it almost always means unexpected delays. Experts know exactly how to time each phase of the process, including demolition, installation of plumbing and electrical and cabinet installation, to maximize efficiency.
• Select your contractor wisely. The selection process should be thoughtful and meticulous - don’t rush it. We’ve all heard horror stories about people hiring a contractor who turns out to be unreliable, or worse, doesn’t finish the job. Ask friends for recommendations, check references (recent ones) and do significant research into the company’s background and experience.
• Keep it simple. If your kitchen has good flow and the layout is functional, don’t mess with it. Remodels that don’t involve reconfiguring the layout of appliances take far less time. If the layout is your biggest concern, however, it’s most likely worth the extra time to do some reconfiguring.
